BOLD STROKES BOOKS FINALISTS: Erotic Interludes 5: Road Games, eds. Radclyffe and Stacia Seaman (Erotica) House of Clouds, KI Thompson (Historical Fiction) Winds of Fortune, Radclyffe (Romance) Honor Under Siege, Radclyffe (Suspense) I just received today (April 8) the copies of my new contemporary romance, Heart of the Matter. It's really exciting to hold in my hands my second novel, and one so different from House of Clouds, an historical. I'll be debuting it with a reading and signing in Minneapolis at the Amazon Co-op. And I'll be joined by authors Lori Lake and Ellen Hart which makes it much more fun and exciting.
The reading and signing at the Library of Congress on November 14 was the perfect ending to a perfect year. I was thrilled to learn of the ongoing literary events, including author readings and signings, put on by GLOBE, the gay and lesbian employees of the library. Just being in the building and being a part of those writers who had gone before me was an honor and privilege. And the invitation to return when my next book comes out was an offer I know I won't be able to refuse. September 28th was a day I'll never forget. I had just received a copy of my first novel, House of Clouds. I felt an odd, surreal sensation as I held it in my hands, as though it was something alien. Flipping through the pages and reading the words that I had written, though familiar, was still somehow foreign and strange. The feelings of disbelief are beginning to dissipate, replaced by happiness at having accomplished something so momentous for myself, and knowing that it's finally here. That same day we put an offer on a house and were nervous, excited, and scared about that. So the emotions that day were running extremely high. Then Sunday, the 30th, we took off for New York to see Ann Bannon's The Beebo Brinker Chronicles in New York. What a joy to share the experience with Radclyffe and her partner Lee. During lunch, we received a phone call from our realtor saying we got the house. It's not difficult to find the analogy between that and the book title. The play was wonderful, as I fully expected it to be. The actors pulled it off with humor, but also with a bitter sweet portrayal of the difficulties coming out in the late 1950's, early 60's were. The playwrights skillfully adapted several of the Beebo books, seamlessly giving us the highlights of each. Following the play, Ann sat on stage to be interviewed by a moderator followed by questions from the audience. The highlight was when the moderator asked Ann as to how she felt about being referred to as the "Queen of Lesbian Pulp." Ann laughed and said, "I used to down-play that, but you know, sometimes it's good to be queen." What a great lady. The Lammy Awards in New York in May were wonderful. Congratulations to BSB's own Georgia Beers for being awarded the Lammy for Best Romance for Fresh Tracks. It was a great night and such a pleasure to have so many BSB supporters there. Besides myself, others in attendance were Radclyffe, JD Glass, Cheri, Ruth, Tina, and partners. I can't believe another year has come and gone and the Golden Crown Literary Society Convention has also passed. There isn't enough room to spell out all the awards that BSB took home, so visit the BSB site to find out more by clicking on the link at the upper left. Almost every BSB author attended this year and we're improving our attendance at P-Town as well as Palm Springs. See you all at one of these events. 2006JD Glass' August 5th signing in Rehoboth Beach for her book Punk Like Me went well, despite the horrendous traffic that delayed her arrival. The best part was hearing JD describe her book to a couple of women. Her face just lit up and her enthusiasm was infectious. When she spoke of her character's attempt to be authentic, I could not help but think that the description fit the author as well. JD is a truly gifted writer, an intelligent woman, and a good friend. My sister is going to love her copy, JD! |
